Last month's poll: Reference instruction
Recently we surveyed our customers about library instruction. The most common instruction session types were one-shot library instruction (87.5%), one-on-one instruction (83%), and general orientation (77%). Only about half are conducting FYE instruction, and only a few have a librarian embedded in a course or run a for-credit library class. 80% are instructing students about Credo Reference in their instruction sessions; some key Credo features discussed were the Mind Map, definitions, and biographical materials. For ideas on teaching Credo, see our Usage Toolbox or just respond to this email for personalized recommendations.
We’re excited to release The Credo FYE Guide: Practices for Enhancing Instruction on June 29th. Hundreds of librarians have downloaded chapters so far on topics like Orientation, Collaboration, and Student Engagement. Sign up to receive your copy of the Guide here!
Credo Platform Refresh
The Credo platform is getting a refresh this summer! In July, we’re streamlining the search box options, revamping Topic Pages, and making a few more minor changes to the look and feel of the site. We’ll be sharing more information soon, but to see screenshots of the new version now, just respond to this email.
Privacy Policy update
Now that Credo is compliant with the new Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), we have released an updated privacy policy describing how we use cookies and store your information. No personally identifiable data, including IP address, is stored about users within the Credo platforms. As a named contact for your organization, we maintain your data in a secure site, and will continue to contact you about your requirements and needs, including updates to your account and information relevant to your role. You are welcome to opt out of this contact at any time. For more information or with any questions, please respond to this email.
COUNTER reports
We are now offering COUNTER R5 compliant data in your Librarian Admin account. Please note that these reports track newly captured data, and will not be available for months prior to April 2018. We will continue to host the COUNTER R4 reports through the year 2020 to help you manage historical usage. For more information and a guide to the new usage terminology, see our Help Center.
Instruction Tip of the Month: Incorporating Biographies into Pre-search
As we learned from Jodie Morin, library director at Buena Vista University, in her popular webinar The Four (or 5?) B’s: Preparing for the Research Process, accessing biographic information is an important component of pre-search. To better serve the content your users want, Credo is actively working to make data-driven content acquisitions. As part of this effort, we’ve added “Gale Biographies” to the Core Collections, containing more than 400 biographies strategically selected from Gale to offer in-depth coverage of the top-searched and most-requested people in the Credo database. Now you just have three (or 4?) B's to go!
Real-time Reference Spotlight:Police Body Cameras
One of the most contentious issues in law enforcement today is the use of police body cameras. Following several high-profile incidents of police violence, many have called for all officers to wear them. However, some groups are concerned about invasions of privacy and the increased exposure of witnesses and victims. See how both sides make their case in this ProCon.org article.
